Day 1
Main Ideas: Rome began as a republic, a government in which elected officials represent the people. The absolute rulers called emperors seized power and expanded the empire. The Roman Empire touched three continents-Europe, Asia, and Africa. Rome brought peace and prosperity to its empire eventual collapse. Out of Judea rose a monotheistic, or single-god, religion known as Christianity. Based on the teachings of Jesus of Nazareth, it soon spread throughout Rome and beyond.
Timeline: 509 B.C: Rome becomes a republic. 264 B.C: First Punic War begins. 218 B.C: In the second Punic War, Hannibal invades Italy. 31 B.C: Octavian defeats the forces of Antony and Cleopatra. 284 A.D: Diocletian becomes emperor of Rome. 476 A.D: Western Roman Empire falls.

Mr. Schick is leaving for two weeks
Today in class, Mr. Schick told the students about him leaving for two weeks. The teacher has to leave for this amount of time because, he has to go to the doctors tomorrow. I forget what the actual reason was for him going to the doctors, but I'm pretty sure it is a surgery happening, and having to do with his stomach area. I really hope the surgery goes well for Mr. Schick, and everything goes the right way. Also, I think the teacher said that if he doesn't get this surgery done, he could possibly die, which scared me for him. After explaining to us why he won't be here, he also explained the plan that he had for us. Mr. Schick planned and made a schedule for each section to do work in every class that we had within those two weeks. Some of the work will include reading the textbook, answering questions, and blogs. Another important thing to remember is that blogs are now worth 10 points each. This rule will only apply for these two weeks, I think. That is all we discussed about today in class.

Greece test day!
Today in
class, we took the test on Greece. Before we took the test, Mr. Schick allowed
us to study for a couple minutes. So, I chose to refresh my mind on the
material that will be on the test. Then we finally took the test, I think that
I did really good on it. All the questions were multiple choice, I knew mostly
all of the answers to them by remembering it. I studied for about 2 hours
yesterday, so I hope I get the grade I want. I reviewed the three sections Mr.
Schick informed us about, and the worksheet. I put all the questions/answers
into a Quizlet and then studied from that. Quizlet really helps with studying
for tests because, it has different types of learning styles. I need to raise
my grade in this class, and I definitely think this test will help with that.
Also, other upcoming blogs and tests/quizzes will improve it as well. I do hope
that this test brings it from a C to a B.
